First half of the week versus the second

First half of the week versus the second

When the director of Student Health Services tells you she’s impressed by you and your work and that she wants your help with future projects that’s when you know you’re doing well.

Today was wonderful. Excited for the last FMLA meeting of the semester tomorrow.

Advocates for Youth interviewed me for their end of the year newsletter which will reach 65,000 people. The interview is over FMLA and our work on ETSU’s campus.

Freedom Rocks?

Alright, so as most of you know I’m president of a student organization called Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance. We are cosponsoring this ETSU event called Freedom Rocks. They have continually messed things up. Not maliciously. Just due to a lack of proper organization. I don’t have time to be in charge of every single event we help out with (We do a lot and I’m a busy fucking person), so some other members have been in charge of helping with this event and apparently the organizers have left my members completely out of the loop. At first the event organizers (A sorority and College Republicans) thought our name was FLMA and we had them correct it. Then they printed all of the t-shirts and hundreds of flyers. They all say Female Majority Ledaership Alliance. This is a big fucking deal.

  1. It makes it sound like we’re a bunch of women getting together letting people know there are more of us than men or something?
  2. We are not a female organization. Feminism is open to all genders and sexes.
  3. It shows they truly do not care. They don’t care if they mess up our name. They don’t care if they look like idiots. They don’t care about doing their research and getting their facts straight.

I went down to their office to explain all of this to them (and point out that they mentioned college republicans and not us in all of their promotional websites. Also, on the shirts they are claiming College Democrats is a sponsor when College Democrats does not exist. They are trying to appear non-partisan when they really aren’t. Also, they’re expecting FMLA to represent the democrats. I am not ofuckingkay with this because that makes it seem like you can only be a feminist if you’re democratic and it makes our group look closed minded.).

They did not take me pointing out their plethora of errors very well. I was speaking in a calm voice and pointing out everything and mentioning their complete lack of organization.

They called me hostile and told me to lower my voice (Even though I was speaking at normal level. They didn’t want their superiors or the faculty to hear me.) Hostile. Fucking hostile. If I were a man doing this I would be “assertive” and have a “keen attention to detail” or some shit. Also, one of the organizers made some joke about me not having a life after a pointed out all of the very obvious errors that several people in FMLA have noticed. That is not professional. I’m sorry that I actually care how my organization is represented. I actually care about FMLA looking good.

I am not fucking pleased. They did not handle this well and if they screw up one more thing then they will see what hostile really looks like.
